STEERING GROUP MEETINGS. Steering group meetings are our opportunity to have a say in the redevelopment of the park. The next meeting is on 22nd May. Park users have asked us to request more comfortable seating and urgent provision of litter bins and dog bins along the new avenue. We will also be asking questions about gate opening and closing times. If you have any comments or requests, please use 'CONTACT US' to let us know. Caledonian Park can be found on Islington's borders with Camden, just one mile
north of Kings Cross station. It has various claims to distinction, it is the second largest green space in the London borough of Islington, and its Victorian Clocktower is a landmark for a wide area. It has a well documented history dating back to the early 17th century, when popular ‘tea gardens‘, were built on the site, and today, it is a haven of greenery just yards away from the noise and traffic fumes of the city. The extensive woodland areas that give the park its tranquillity provide habitat for a variety of birds & other wildlife and have earned the park its Borough Grade1 nature-conservation status. Most recently, it has been involved in a controversial scheme to loan of some of its land for the rebuilding of an adjacent housing estate, and improvements to the park together with necessary works to return it to its original size.

The Caledonian Park Users Group (CPUG) was formed by a group of local residents in 2000 to represent the interests of park users when we discovered that the park was under threat from these building proposals. We chose our name to emphasise that we stand for all the people who love and use the park NOW, as opposed to critics who wanted it greatly changed. We count all actual users and well-wishers as members, and we work to protect the park’s wildlife and nature-conservation status. Thanks to the solid support of park users, the final redevelopment scheme was one we can subscribe to, and we are now ‘partners’, representing local opinion, in the consultation process that is ongoing throughout the redevelopment. Apart from this, We have organised two festivals in the park, and forged links with the local primary school. It is our aim that ‘Callypark’ will become truly a neighbourhood park, retaining its rural character, but with additional amenities that will make it a park for everybody.
